With its origins tracing back to 1912, the Brisbane Excelsior Band has served as a cornerstone of Queensland’s musical landscape for over a century. Brisbane Excelsior currently competes in the A Grade section, performing alongside some of Australia’s premier brass ensembles. The band maintains a distinguished competitive record, including a remarkable four consecutive championship victories from 2006 to 2010.
Windsor Excelsior Band was established in 2002 as the organisation’s second ensemble. Founded with a commitment to community engagement, the band commenced its competitive journey in the D Grade section. While maintaining its strong community focus, Windsor Excelsior has demonstrated consistent growth and excellence, advancing to become an accomplished B Grade ensemble with multiple competition successes.
The organisation expanded further in 2024 with the formation of Lutwyche Excelsior Band. As the newest addition to the Excelsior family, Lutwyche represents the continued growth of our commitment to fostering brass band excellence throughout Queensland.
All three ensembles maintain a balanced approach to performance, placing equal importance on both competitive achievement and community entertainment. The bands regularly perform at diverse venues across Brisbane, including public parks, concert halls, and civic events, while also presenting their own concert series throughout South East Queensland.
